Chipstable Parish Council is one of 340 democratically elected Parish Councils in Somerset. It is responsible for reporting to Taunton Deane Borough Council on local issues. The Parish Council is a corporate body which has a separate legal existence.
The Councillors Chipstable Parish Council has five Parish Councillors and one Parish Clerk. With the exception of the Parish Clerk, all the members of the Parish Council are unpaid. The clerk receives a nominal salary based on the hours worked. The clerk is the proper officer of the Parish Council in law. All members of the Parish Council are legally bound by the code of conduct laid down by the government.
Local issues The Parish Council is available to listen to the needs and concerns of the community and represent their interests. They always do their best to ensure Parishioners are kept informed of any local issues which may affect them, and their local views are made known to the Borough Council .The Parish Council’s role also includes initiating projects for the maintenance and repair of parish facilities, such as the roads, drainage, footpaths and bridleways, plus the upkeep of the Church cemeteries.
Income The Parish Council receives its income (called the precept) from the council tax collected by Taunton Deane Borough Council. As we are a rural parish with a sparse population the amount we receive is correspondingly small.
